Agartala Smart City Project: CM Manik Saha Reviews Mega Infrastructure Works, Sets Durga Puja Deadline

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Saturday carried out a comprehensive field inspection of ongoing Agartala Smart City Project works and directed officials to accelerate construction while ensuring the highest standards of quality. The visit comes as the state government intensifies efforts to complete major urban infrastructure projects before Durga Puja 2026.

Reviewing progress at multiple locations across the capital, the Chief Minister reiterated that the state government's development agenda is centred on delivering visible results rather than making promises. He said every project under the Agartala Smart City Mission is aimed at improving urban infrastructure, civic amenities and the overall quality of life for residents.

CM Reviews Roads, Drainage, Underground Electrification and Smart Infrastructure

During the inspection, Dr. Saha examined several key Smart City projects, including:

Smart road construction
Covered drainage systems
Culverts and stormwater outlets
Underground power distribution network
Modern rainwater pumping stations
Urban beautification works
Civic infrastructure upgrades

The Chief Minister instructed engineers and officials to maintain construction quality at every stage while ensuring timely completion of all pending works.

Additional Workforce Ordered to Overcome Monsoon Delays

Acknowledging that continuous monsoon rainfall has affected the pace of construction, Dr. Saha directed the concerned departments to deploy additional manpower and improve project management.

He admitted that citizens are facing temporary inconvenience because of ongoing construction activities but said such short-term disruption is unavoidable when implementing large-scale urban development projects.

According to the Chief Minister, public support and patience remain crucial for transforming Agartala into one of the region's most modern and well-planned cities.

Advanced Pumping System to Reduce Urban Waterlogging

Highlighting the government's flood mitigation strategy, Dr. Saha said state-of-the-art pumping machines have already been installed to remove rainwater rapidly during heavy showers.

He added that although intense rainfall may occasionally cause temporary water accumulation, the upgraded drainage network is expected to significantly improve water discharge across vulnerable areas.

The Chief Minister also appealed to residents not to dump garbage into drains, stressing that public participation is essential for keeping drainage channels functional throughout the year.

Government Targets Completion Before Durga Puja

Dr. Saha said the administration is making every effort to complete major roads, drains and related civic infrastructure before the upcoming Durga Puja festivities.

He noted that while some projects have experienced delays because of administrative complications inherited from the past, the government remains committed to removing bottlenecks and ensuring timely execution.

The Smart City initiative, he said, aims to transform Agartala into a cleaner, technologically advanced and environmentally sustainable urban centre equipped with modern civic infrastructure.
