Incidents of Fundamentalists Attack on Minorities Increased in Bangladesh: Minority Community

In the general elections held in Bangladesh on January 7, 2024, the minority community living there voted for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's party Awami League, so that they could live safely and peacefully.

But, the ongoing attacks after the elections have revealed that Sheikh Hasina's government has failed to stop fundamentalist attacks on minorities.

Despite the new government after the elections, attacks on Hindus have not stopped. Minority organizations claim that at least 3 attacks are taking place every month.

After Sheikh Hasina took oath as the PM of Bangladesh for the 5th time, incidents of attacks on Hindus have come to light in 6 districts of Bangladesh (Kushtia, Bagerhat, Jhenaidah, Gaibandha, Chittagong and Sylhet). Of these, 35 people have been injured, one of whom has died.

Ranjan-Karmakar, member of minority organization Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad, says that the attacks on minorities and temples after the elections are worrying. Due to lack of action in these cases and non-punishment of the accused, the morale of many fundamentalist organizations is increasing. Strict punishment is necessary to prevent such attacks in future.
