Tripura Govt Holds Talks With Surrendered NLFT-ATTF Cadres Ahead Of June 12 Road Blockade

Amid rising concerns over a proposed road blockade by surrendered members of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), the Government of Tripura on Thursday convened an important meeting at the Civil Secretariat to address their long-pending demands.
The meeting was chaired by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, who held detailed discussions with representatives of surrendered former insurgents regarding rehabilitation measures, pending financial assistance, livelihood support, and unresolved grievances.
During the interaction, the representatives highlighted several issues related to the rehabilitation agreement signed with the Central (Ministry of Home Affairs) and State governments on September 4, 2024. They urged the administration to expedite the implementation of promised benefits and development initiatives.
Responding to the concerns, Minister Bikash Debbarma assured the delegation that the government would carefully examine all demands and work towards an amicable solution through dialogue. He emphasized that peaceful negotiations remain the best path to resolving outstanding issues and reiterated the government's positive approach toward the matter.
A section of surrendered NLFT and ATTF cadres has announced a road blockade programme on June 12, alleging that commitments made under the rehabilitation accord have not been fulfilled. The agreement reportedly included a proposed allocation of ₹250 crore for rehabilitation, livelihood generation, skill development, and other projects aimed at integrating former militants into mainstream society.
The surrendered groups claim that despite significant time having elapsed since the agreement was signed, many promised initiatives remain pending, leaving hundreds of former insurgents facing economic hardship and uncertainty.
The blockade call has triggered concerns about possible disruptions to transportation across Tripura, particularly in Khowai and Teliamura, two key transit corridors that connect multiple regions of the state. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as efforts continue to prevent any disruption to normal public movement.
